Swedish metal has always been a favourite of mine, especially the endless amount of obscure singles.
Here are some singles I'll hold tight til' I die.
Zone Zero - Heavy Metal 7'' - To me, THE best Swedish single together with GC 7''. Every time I put this on the player I get blown away. It's simple, it's fkin perfect.
Gotham City - Gotham City 7'' - -"-
Jackwave - King of the Sea 7'' - Proud, NWOBHM like heavy metal with a majestic sing-a-long chorus. Too bad their 2nd single only exist in 5 test press copies...
Grave - Screaming from the Grave 7'' - Usually, synth is a big turn off when it comes to metal. But there is unbelievaby good stuff with them too.. This is one of them.
220 Volt - Prisoner of War 7'' - I crushes rest of their work COMPLETELY. Raw, heavy, epic.. etc etc etc.
Scratch - Before the Rain 7'' - Well, a-side is good but the real treat is metal breaker of course.. One of the best swedish songs ever.
Onyx - Karon 7'' - Amazing heavy metal sung in swedish. Some might think it's a bit lightweight and not as metal as 220 V for example, but it's a fave for me without a doubt.
Maninnya Blade - The Barbarian 7'' - Usually, I'm not a big fan of thrash metal and such.. But this is CRUSHING.
Behemoth - Deathwings 7'' - No words needed. I'm not sure of which song is the better.. Right now it's Vengeance. It has everything. Some errie evil thing going on here.
That's it from me. For now...
Now, tell me what singles are your faves? It sure ain't Europe - Carrie 7'' I guess? |

I never liked the Zone Zero single to be honest. |

U mad bro'?!
After those Top-3, prolly' ONYX, WARNING, KEEN HUE, 220 V, REFLEX, BEHEMOTH, AMBUSH, MANINNYA BLADE, ...
I also have weakness for those very early 78-82 amateur HR/proto-HM releases like DREAM, JEREMIAH, TYFUZ, TEAMWORK, GYPSY, WAGABOND etc.. Might just be a 'Swedish thing' though... |

TBH many 80s swedish singles are too lightweight for me, but there are some real gems in the bunch. Some personal faves:
Scratch- truly one os the greatest HM songs of all time in 'Metal Breaker'
Hels
Lezlie Paice
220 Volt
Heavy Load
Jackwave (anyone got a spare copy?)

Can't say I've listened to a heck of a lot of Swedish singles, but these 2 stick out in my mind as favorites:
220 Volt - Prisoner Of War
Sergeant - Doubt |

I'm seeing Behemoth... oops Deathwings in Sundsvall tonight. Wish me luck!
Favourites in my own collection: Sergeant (SGT), Stitch (first), Warning, Maninnya Blade, Scamps, Crystal Pride, 220 Volt (PoW), Gotham City, R&R and of course Behemoth! As for the pre-metal stuff: Tyfus & Steve Roper Band are pretty cool. |

As DaN knows, BEHEMOTH has been a favourite for years.
Honorary mentions go to: WAGABOND & AMBUSH.
220 Volt, great too.
Isn't the SILVER MOUNTAIN 7" pretty darned good.
Haven't heard that one in a while.
(Trigger obviously has...) |
