Hi friends,
With great pleasure we can finally announce the amazing METAL ASSAULT headliner:
The reformed SANCTUARY will play exclusively their very first German show since almost 22 years at METAL ASSAULT. The band with NEVERMORE singer Warrel Dane wrote metal history with their two classic albums ‘Refuge Denied’ and ‘Into The Mirror Black’. They played their last German show on the fantastic 1990 tour with Fates Warning and Secrecy. Now the band is back in almost original line up (Brad Hull replaces Sean Blosl) and will their first German show since 22 years at METAL ASSAULT.

| It's cool that Sanctuary is reformed and all but I think we all know that Warrel Dane can't hit those high notes anymore. |

| Well, I was there, he's making an effort but his voice just isn't like it used to be anymore. He really can't sing that high all the time and he isn't as pissed off as in Refuge Denied. He's not bad at all though and things could have been a lot worse. |

If he doesn't shriek and squeal as much any more - all the better. |

| Hell yeah, the second is way better but could still have done with less shrieky vocals. |

Is it just the vocals that cause this opinion, or is there another reason?
Even if you replaced Warrel Dane with say Geoff Tate for example, I would still find the first album superior to the second. It's more raw, aggressive and thrashy where as the second went in a more mellow direction that's more polished and less satisfying. |

| Refuge Denied kind of annihilates Into The Mirror Black IMO. The band took a different less in your face direction on the second album which isn't bad though and has many killer tracks. However the debut is one the greatest and most aggressive US metal ever as far as I'm concerned. |

No, I find the vocals a bit irritating (though not too irritating to listen) on both albums. I like the direction and the songs on the second album better. Taste, I guess.
Anyway, I feel Heir Apparent could have been the headliner of this package as for me they're a better band than Sanctuary. Not a big issue though. I would love to go to this mainly for Heir Apparent and Sinister Realm and also for Pagan Altar (that I've already seen twice) and Sanctuary. But I've had a disastrous time financially lately and doubt if I could pull it off. In fact, I better start saving if I want to go to KIT in april.
Would have loved to go to Hammer of Doom next weekend also. |
