Hello all,

May I have your recommandations about what you think are true masterpieces but for some reasons remain in the shadow of the well known classics ? No matter the country, year or genre. But only 9/10 or 10/10 album, if I may say it like this.

Also don't give more than 5 or 6 albums/persons.

Then I'll tell you if I already know and if I like it or not, or if it's a discovery, etc. You can also discuss the choices of each other.

Thanks for answering.

I don't know what kind of metal you like most, i just guess traditional metal from the 80s?

If so, do you have/know these titles:

SIREN - No Place Like Home LP
MARTYR (hol) - first two LPs
GLACIER - same EP ?

If you need more obscure tipps, just tell us, no shortage of that as well.

I know GLACIER and I like them! This is high quality metal like I'm referring in the opening post Smile

I only heard some of MARTYR but not enough to have an opinion yet.

As for SIREN, never listened, I'll give it a try!

I like many kinds of metal (heavy speed thrash black doom death...) so I don't know what to say but as I prefer oldschool/natural/"true metal" sound, I guess the 80's will do it. So this thread is really free.

I will also go for Siren's first LP,one of the best metal Lp's with one of the most ridiculous covers sold at the most ridiculous prices, give it a chance and you won't lose!
One other album I instantly adored is Dark Age's (US) self titled mini-LP!
I would definitely recommend Tantrum-Trenton City Murders mini-LP,Salem's Law-Tales of Goblin's Breed,Witchhammer-1487 and many more that take time to think of Cool

Cool, glad you like GLACIER already. The first MARTY is a dutch classic with some MAIDEN/NWOBHM influence and some great fast-paced songs (almost speed metal). Second album is a bit more melodic, but with excellent songwriting throughout. Fantastic musicians/singer.

First SIREN(US) is also a unique album, US metal with a little progressive touch and with killer songs like "Terrible Swift Sword" and others.

This is why maybe this LP passed unnoticed and has always been in the cheapos section but believe me,this is more than worth checking!

Just a couple off the top of my head:

Darkthrone - Soulside Journey - mainly known for their BM Lp's, but I think this is a true Scandi-DM great.

Pestilence - Malleus Maleficarum - this one gets forgotten as well as the bands DM output only gets mentioned but I think it kills.

For me Soulside Journey is just a rip off of Nihilist/Entombed and a bit of Autopsy. Among others. Beside 2/3 songs, I find it boring. Thankfully they dropped that and released the almighty classic A Blaze In The Northern Sky some months later Smile

As for the first Pestilence LP, yes it is really great ! The aggressiveness of Van Drunen's vocals always turn me on.

You might want to edit that. The reunited Martyr have an EP/album out as well, full of groove metal.

Sticking with the Dutch Metal I'll go with

Emerald - Down Town: Best in your face air siren heavy metal album around

And some NWOBHM:

Wolf - Edge Of The World: Best melodic without wimping out heavy metal classic.
