I have what you might call collectors' ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). I get lots of ideas of specific things to collect (e.g. everything by a particular band, label, genre, whatever) but another idea or focus comes along before I get very far. Last time I completed a collection was when I got the "Backlash" single, thus completing my DAWNWATCHER collection. I know it's only 3 pieces, but it's one of the highlights of my entire music collection.

So what collections have you completed lately?

Yes, Dawnwatcher are masters. I only need the first one original. My 80's Sacred Blade collection is complete Laughing

I have a complete Brocas Helm vinyl collection. Need to check my stuff to know if I have some other complete series.

I have ADD in general, and it shows potently in the music-collecting. I don't think I ever collected anything. So I'd better say that I accumulate music rather than collect it. Piles of allsorts make an impressive patchwork of almost nothing. Maybe Voivod and CF on CDs ... Though when I collected anything in any form I always got that feeling that wasn't really kewl. A path that has ended. An act of finishing sth. Scarry.

Let's see. I have a complete Acid vinyl collection. A complete Ancient rites vinyl collection 'till 1999 (could easily complete it but the later albums are less interesting). A complete Worship vinyl collection. But those all grew kind of organically as they are some of my favourite bands.
A not complete collection, but way more precious to me and the only one that I am actively trying to complete is my Sabbat collection. Which is also, oh paradox, one I will never be able to complete.

I think that I need Bathory¡s "Twilight of te gods" promo 12"ep to complete my Btahory collection. Also I need "Evil Metal" to complete my Death SS collection... hmm what else??? "Masquerade" on lp would look killer besides the oter Running Wild albums I have already.... Very Happy

Great thread..!

I have a nearly complete collection on Vinyl, CD, EP, promo etc... of Voivod! My fav band ever!!!! I also have all Acid releases too. I own all CD releases and lots of vinyl etc...of Savatage, Saga, Rush, Heart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Maiden and so on...
I think I have almost all Living Death as well???? ...& Satan too...

Oh collecting is so much fun!!! ...& yes I agree that it is verrrry hard to stick with just one band or label or genre... before too long you've discovered something new and that 'one collecting idea' is at the back of the line & you're off on some other new tangent....

I just wish I had all Venom releases, they are one band that I really lack in unfortunately... Crying or Very sad

I don't consider many bands having a full catalog worth owning, I've heard of people buying shitty albums from bands just to "complete a collection" or whatever else I don't believe in that.

Yeah, I have that problem. If a band has for instance 2 shitty albums I'd still want to own them because i'd have all their albums than. Therefore I bought all Saxon albums up 'till now, although there are some really weak releases in their catalogue.

I do have a couple of complete collections like Saxon, Led Zeppelin and some other mainstream artists, but that ain't something special. I also have all Ostrogoth albums (vinyl&cd), but then again, that ain't so hard if you live in Belgium (and it's only four items) Wink

Besides that I have a almost complete collection of The Hidden Hand (Wino's latest outfit), just missing one cd. They're putting out a new album in a few months, so that'll change again Sad

yeah, this is how it happens. with every new release the balance is disturbed, esp. in case band releases an album that's not up to previous standards. Ew, causes headaches.

Like odin said there's few bands worth getting EVERYTHING with, at least when you consider those with a large discography. Personally I never buy both the LP and CD releases of the same albums. (If someone I know have the CD reissue of a great album I only have on vinyl I occationally copy it to a CDR and stick in the LP sleeve) An exception in later years have been PAGAN ALTAR since the packaging differs so much between the formats.

As for complete vinyl collections I come close with BROCAS HELM (only got the black vinyl ed of the greek live LP), PENTAGRAM (no singles and not the Pissville reissues. Or the last one.), HOLOCAUST (no 7" versions of the 12"s though, and not the later CDs), ACID (need 1st press of the debut 7"!) etc.. Sometimes it's just as satisfying to own all 4 OSTROGOTH releases as it is to have both LESTER MADDOX or DWARR albums, even if the quality differs a lot between them.

I have some personal "kinks" when it comes to weird concepts, like all-girl bands (non-commercial), all blacks, weird images (got all 4 "nazi-Metal" albums from the 80's! Hurrah!?) etc...

My Metal Enterprises-fetich doesn't include the BÖHSE ONKELZ or other Oi-releases, so I'm not really a completist there...

SINDROME! I've got just about everything with their name on it except for the remastered "Into the halls.." tape. Hilfe!

HOLOCAUSTO - "Campo de exterminio", EXTERMINATOR - "Total Extermination" and HEAVY METAL ARMY - s/t. Ofcourse they we're not really "nazis", but they played around with the images in a clueless and tacky manner. File under "Incredibly Strange".

I would be willing to buy "bad" albums for the sake of completeness, but typically I've moved on to something else before I reach that point. I certainly see your point though. There’s too much good stuff out there to waste the effort and expense of buying bad albums.

I've honestly never worried about that because I think that the definition of "complete" is whatever you want it to be. For example, I only collect pre-Andi Deris HELLOWEEN. My SCORPIONS collection will be complete when I have everything from the 70s and 80s. You get the idea.

To me, there is no point in having multiple copies of the same albums, regardless of format/packaging/etc. I’ll pick up a reissue if it has bonus tracks, but then I’ll get rid of my old copy. However, I generally prefer having the original issues so if, for example, said bonus tracks are B-sides to a single then I’ll get the single instead of the reissue.
