Ah, 1984. Probably my favorite year for metal! I could list out my own personal favorites, but there really wouldn't be any surprises (Maiden, Priest, Manowar, Jag Panzer, Metallica, etc.)

So, here are some runners up not mentioned yet:
3rd Stage Alert - 3rd Stage Alert
Limelight - Ashes To Ashes
Lizzy Borden - Give Em The Axe
Mad Max - Rolling Thunder
Overdrive - Swords And Axes
Parasite - Parasite
Persian Risk - Too Different
Sacred Rite - Sacred Rite
Shok Paris - Go For The Throat

Also, lots of great comps released in '84!
Battle Of Metal
Death Metal
Dutch Steel
Iron Tyrants
Metal Massacre 5
New York Metal-84
Northwest Metalfest

Back then I certainly didn't own all the classic lp's released in 1984 that I have now but I had these and listened to them constantly
Metallica "Ride the Lightning"
Rush "Grace Under Pressure"
Venom "At War with Satan"
Warfare "Pure Filth and Fury"
Yngwie Malmsteen "Rising Force"
Queensryche "Warning"
Deep Purple "Perfect Strangers:
Parasite "MLP"
Dio "Last in Line"
Iron Maiden "Powerslave"
Judas Priest "Defenders of the Faith"
Manowar "Sign of the Hammer"
Mercyful Fate "Don't Break the Oath"
Celtic Frost "Morbid Tales"
Scorpions " Love at First Sting"
W.A.S.P "S.T"
I remember reading about Cirith Ungol and Trouble in mags and wanting their lp's so bad, took a few years later to get them.

I certainly have to add Slayer "Haunting the Chapel". It was the first time I heard them and was floored by the guitar sound and how cold the record sounded, truly unbelievable. Bought it off a friend who only listened to punk lp's, so glad he hated it.

Have to add the Steeler (Germany) debut. One of the most spun album when I was 13-14 years old back in the mid-eighties. Not a perfect album by any means (esp the vocals) but I find it damn pleasant all the same (and the best album Axel Rudi Pell ever did, I'm sure).

Best album? I'm not sure. But probably the heaviest or most raw.

By a long shot, 1984 was the best year metal ever had. Sign Of The Hammer gets my vote!
