| Cool mentions there Greg, and original. I have loved Poisoned Whiskey since I was a teen back in the 80s, it's a personal classic. |

Hugo
True.H-BOMB is such an underrated band.
I prefer ''Coup De Metal'' EP than ''Attaque'' though.
Totally agree, amazing songs in those releases!!! |

The best song of Dark Wizard in my opinion! |

This is a good list, but since you consider GRIFFIN - Flight of the griffin a classic, I suggest you go download the 12 track Griffin "Demo 83" Live To 2 Track Reference tape. ALL versions on this demo blow away any of the versions on the lp, which has a watered down sound compared to the demo recordings. Raven wrote: Perhaps you just have some of these but here is a list by the mood of the moment:
EXODO - The new babylon (classic traditional metal from Spain)
SARACEN - Heroes, saints and fools (Nwobhm with epic prog elements)
ALKANA - Welcome to my paradise (Heavy rock 70's - great)
LEGEND - From the fjords (Amazing epic heavy rock from 70's)
WINTERHAWK - Revival (Hard rock masterpiece MUST HAVE)
BLACKLIST - The sign of four (Great German band - classic power metal)
GRIFFIN - Flight of the griffin (A classic)
XCEL - Deliver this dream (rare good Lp in Queensryche - Exxplorer style)
SINISTER ANGEL - Same Ep (Heavy from USA)
TYRANT'S REIGN - Year of the tyrants (Speed masterpiece)
TYRANT'S REIGN - Same cd (grab all items of this great band)
HOLY TERROR - Terror and submission (Common item, great and underrated thrash)
HOLY TERROR - Mind wars (As above, more of the same... one of my favourite thrash lp) |

A lot of people hate this album because of the vocals. Personally, I don't mind them but it's still quite average in my opinion. |

CRYSYS : Hard As A Rock I need to look half of those up. Never heard of them.
You see Sorcery and Crysys mentioned ever so often. But it's the first time I've seen Chasar mentioned in years. Great band that was. |

The Blackhorse is great raging southern hard rock, love it.
Never heard the rest, how do they sound ? |

Never got into HYKSOS, always seemed like an amateurish version of JUDAS PRIEST to my ears. To each his own!
Need to re-visit CRYSYS, I remember it being ok, but it didn't leave a strong impression....
DRUNK HORSE is a fun band that I discovered via Mr Kit's excellent blog
Hmmm, some underrated/overlooked records that, IMO, are really great:
Crowhaven 'Emotional Adjustment'
When crushing heavy metal Goes Southern! Killer songs with a great singer, and I love the southern hard rock influence that's turned up to Eleven here.
Taipan s/t EP
Total barnburner that I rarely see mentioned. The first 3 tracks are absolute screamers. Sadly, the rest of the band's catalog is pretty lame IMO, but this EP has rocked my world since I came across it in the early 90s
Not Fragile 'Who Dares Wins' EP
Their other releases seem to be standard-issue 80s Euro trad metal- not bad but nothing outstanding- but this EP packs a furious, aggressive punch
Viper 'Evolution'
After Matos left to form ANGRA, the band gave up the symphonic power metal style (that they did really well on 'Theater of Fate') and reverted to a stripped-down, no-frills, for of metal that was simple but high octane fun all the way! I never have heard their later albums, but this one is still great 20 years later
Armoured Angel 'Stigmartyr' EP
A personal fave band that's always been overlooked. Most of their stuff is excellent, but this one really takes the cake. The opening two songs are the epitome of their sound- bulldozer heavy, stigtan black, yet laden with hooks. They somehow merged the best of MOTORHEAD and BOLT THROWER and made it perfect
Just a few off the top of my head... |
